a commercial for The New England Aquarium. I believe this might be from the 70’s. Thought I’d put it up in case anyone is interested, it’s probably rare. Those that remember this commercial often recall one for the Museum of Science in Boston, so here is a link provided by “jabroni33175″ to that commercial from the MOS site: www.mos.org
I havent seen this one in years. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
I noticed that too! I figured someone in advertising had a daughter named Karen.
Sad to say that they haven’t exactly maintained the NE-Aquarium, I think the last time they cleaned it was 1978!
The Winter Home of Andre the Seal
The line “I CAN WALK LIKE A PENGUIN!!!” still reverberates in my brain today.
Funny, when I went to the NEAQ recently, there were several people *holding their kids over the giant tank* so they could see the sharks and giant rays better. I had the damndest time holding my tongue…
You mean, “It’s gonna exude it’s digestive organ and absorb your hand, Karen!”
OK, I just went to the NEAQ this weekend and I can’t for the life of me figure how the old interior layout of the main building meshes with the modern one. Specifically: the shark appears to be swimming in the big pool that makes up the entire first floor (which now holds penguins only). Considering that most of the walkways are essentially bridges over this pool, there’s NO EFFIN’ WAY they had sharks in it… is there?
This ad ran for so damn long!
You can’t lean over into the seal pen anymore
I can walk like a penguin! classic line that’s been reused in my family forever!
wow…I remember that
Wow! Now I can finally explain why I sometimes say “I can walk like a pengiun”!
I was there since the late 1980’s-mid 1990’s when I was younger.
So long, and thanks… for all the fish.
I liked the MoS better; the only thing at the aquarium that turned me on was the blacklights on that ramp…
Woah! Does that bring back memories or what!?! *Sigh* To be a kid again…
I always saw this on WLVI, well into the 80’s. I’m pretty sure at some point in my childhood I had a nightmare of Karen throwing a starfish at me.
Me too. The drawings of the sharks on the wall freaked me out as well.
It’s funny, I thought the tank was giant too. Though, when I went there last, maybe 2 years ago, it wasn’t as big as it seemed when I was 7 or 8 years old! Though I know the size of that hasn’t really changed. Still cool though. And I also was afraid of falling in that tank..
man, i remember that one
ah the good old 70’s
Doesn’t really seem like it, does it? I see lots more advertising for these places in print or on the MBTA instead.
I still say the son sounds like he says “Hey Mom the dolphin SHOP”, gotta be that Massachusetts accent.
They dont even have dolphins any more and they havnt done the sea lion shows in years
, One of the sea lions was called tyler(my brothers name)…not that ayone cares;)
I never knew that they had dolphins at that aquarium.
